The Streets of Rome

I have sat down to write this a number of times.  I always seem to stall out. I think it is because the images from my trip to Rome run the gamut from street scenes to graffiti, from Rome’s icons, to its stunning churches and basilicas.

So, in this post, I will include just some images taken on the streets . . . .

A kindly gentlemen at the panetteria across from the Fontana di Trevi.

These two gentlemen took up this same post with the puppy every morning in the Campo dei Fiori (that’s a cup of caffe he is finishing off for his master).

This fountain (which is kind of creepy, actually) sits outside an antique store on Via Margutta.  It gets lots of bewlidered stares from passers-by.

These four ladies took up position here in old Trastevere most evenings for very lively discussions – and lots of cigarettes.

Looks like a good way to spend a lunch hour to me!

One of Rome’s few quiet streets . . .  at least at 7am.  Later, not so much . . .

My favorite fountain – the Fontana delle Tartarughe (Turtle Fountain) – dates back to 1588.  It depicts 4 boys supported by dolphins lifting tortoises so they can drink from the upper tier.

As I said in my last post, Rome has changed a lot since I was last there.  Too many cars!  There is also an abundance of graffiti (just like every other big city in the world) . . .  this last image sums up both issues:
